About me
Hi, I’m Luke Silver! I’m a passionate graduate Mechanical Engineering student at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, with a concentration in Energy Resources. I’ve completed my Bachelor of Science and have started my Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly, with graduation set for the spring of 2026. Previously, I graduated in 2022 with an associate's degree of science in architectural technology from Cuesta College. My background combines mechanical design, energy systems, and architectural design. From hands-on roles in architecture and machine shops to engineering internships at Diablo Canyon Power Plant and leadership in the SAE Baja Team, I’ve developed a strong foundation in both technical skills and creative problem-solving. This portfolio highlights the range and depth of my work across these experiences.

Growing up in the Central Valley of California, I often got away to Pismo Beach or Mammoth Mountain. In my free time, I enjoy skiing, surfing, and mountain biking, depending on the season. I even had the opportunity to work as a chair lift operator in Mammoth during the winter of 2021!
Taught by my father, I enjoy sailing our 21-foot MacGregor sailboat whenever I can in Morro Bay, California.
One of my main hobbies is working on cars and engines. I was introduced to it at a young age by my father while helping him rebuild vintage Volkswagens, which soon grew into a passion of my own.
Pictured is the engine from an Audi S4 B6, which I worked on to rebuild the timing chain system. As part of the project, I also installed a custom oil Accusump to extend engine life and serve as a preventative maintenance measure. The Accusump injects the engine with oil pressure before startup, helping to reduce wear on the timing chain guides from chain slap. This car was known for its difficulty of any maintenance requiring the engine to be pulled, but I welcomed this challenge.
When time allows, I enjoy participating in autocross events at the Santa Maria Airport. It is a rewarding way to evaluate how different car modifications affect performance based on lap times. What started as a mechanical interest has also become a personal challenge. As the car improved, so did my driving, and the drive to achieve a more perfect lap continues to push me forward.
